Glitter as an Initiative

#sparkleinitiative - a compliment, a smile, a pat on the back have the power to transform and move mountains.

Every day there's a chance to sparkle. We know how that sounds! We, along with so many of you, get bogged down when watching the news or reading negative things right in your Facebook timeline. And sometimes those things are heavy and genuinely debilitating. We aren't suggesting a Pollyanna attitude. But close.  How do we handle it all without getting overwhelmed? Especially during the holidays?

Enter attitude. It's that thing only you can control on a daily basis, and it has the power to help or harm. So when we say that a little bit of sparkle can solve most problems, what we mean is that focusing on how to make a situation better, by doing only what we can control, can turn negatives into positives.

This holiday season is a great time to test out sparkle at holiday gatherings, and getting into the sparkly mood. Remember, the only thing you can control is yourself. Let go of other people's opinions and allow only the things that exude positivity into your realm of influence.

Go forth and sparkle!

Can You Bring a Water Bottle Into Disneyland? A Waterproof Labeling Checklist

  • Common Mistakes That Break This Checklist

I'm the office administrator for a 40-person company. I handle our packaging and print orders—about $25,000 a year across eight vendors. I've also planned enough family outings to know that the same supplies that keep office gear organized work for a Disneyland day. So, can you bring a water bottle into Disneyland? Short answer: yes. But the practical question is how to keep that bottle labeled, clean, and leak-free. This checklist covers that.

Can You Bring a Water Bottle Into Disneyland?

Yes. As of what I saw on Disneyland's official guest services page in 2024, outside food and non-glass beverages are allowed in the Disneyland Resort parks. Refillable water bottles are fine, and the parks have water refill stations. I should add that I'm not a theme park expert, and park rules can change—so check the official Disneyland site the day before your trip.

The 5-Step Water Bottle Checklist

Use these 5 steps before any big outing:

  1. Fix the smell before you label the bottle.
  2. Pick a waterproof Gorilla label.
  3. Know which tape is actually waterproof.
  4. Protect paper items like a Star Wars poster.
  5. Do a lost-bottle check before you leave.

Step 1: Fix the Water Bottle Smell First

'Water bottle smells bad' is a search I never thought I'd make. Then we ordered branded metal bottles for an event and left them in a storage closet for a weekend. The smell was unmistakable. No label or tape is going to make a smelly bottle pleasant to use, so clean it before you pack it.

Here's the routine I give everyone who asks:

  • Rinse the bottle right after use. Don't let water sit overnight.
  • Once a month, fill it with warm water and two tablespoons of baking soda. Put the cap on, shake, and let it sit for 15 minutes. Rinse well.
  • For stubborn smells, use a 1:1 white vinegar and water soak or a denture tablet.

This works for standard stainless and plastic bottles. If your bottle has a straw lid, take the lid apart—that's usually where the smell hides. The surprise wasn't the bottle material; it was how fast bacteria grew in a sealed bottle left in a warm car. Never expected a stainless bottle to smell that bad. If it still smells after two deep cleans, the bottle is likely scratched inside. Replace it.

Step 2: Use a Gorilla Label That's Actually Waterproof

When I order labels for our company, 'Gorilla label' means a vinyl label with permanent adhesive. The material is what matters. Paper labels and glossy address labels will curl or slide off when they get wet. Vinyl labels stay put. If you're buying labels for water bottles, choose waterproof vinyl. You can also use a basic waterproof label sheet if you don't need custom printing.

Here's the mistake that cost me money. I saved $40 by ordering paper labels for a company picnic. They looked good at the table. After two hours in an ice chest, most of them peeled off. I ended up spending about $120 on replacement vinyl labels plus an express fee. That's my 'saved a little, spent a lot' story.

To apply the label properly: wipe the bottle with rubbing alcohol, let it dry, stick from one edge, and press air bubbles out. For best adhesion, wait 24 hours before putting the bottle in a cooler or dishwasher. At least, that's been my experience with standard cylindrical bottles. For heavily contoured bottles, a large label won't wrap evenly—use a smaller oval label instead. And per FTC guidelines (ftc.gov), any claim like 'waterproof' should be backed up, so ask the supplier how the label performs after submersion.

Step 3: Is Black Gorilla Tape Waterproof?

Quick answer: it's weather-resistant, but I don't use it for standing water. Black Gorilla Tape is strong, and it's great for tears and repairs on dry surfaces. But when I need a true watertight patch, I reach for Gorilla Waterproof Patch & Seal Tape. That rubberized tape is designed to seal out water.

I still kick myself for the day I grabbed the wrong roll on a team hike. Someone's hydration pack started leaking, and I handed them regular black Gorilla Tape. It held for about an hour, then peeled once the fabric was wet. The waterproof patch and seal tape would have been the right tool.

See also I Spent 6 Years Tracking Georgia Pacific Dispenser Costs. Here's What The Sticker Price Didn't Tell Me.

How to tell the difference: if the package says 'weather-resistant,' don't use it for standing water. If it says 'waterproof patch and seal tape,' that's the one. A quick note: tape is a temporary fix for outdoor gear. If a water bottle itself is cracked, throw it out. Don't use tape on the rim or anywhere your mouth touches. It's not a food-safe repair.

Step 4: Protect Your Star Wars Poster and Other Paper Goods

If you pick up a Star Wars poster during your trip, don't fold it. A folded poster is the fastest way to ruin it. Carry a poster tube, or ship it home flat if you're buying multiple prints. At our shop, we ship posters rolled in 3-inch tubes with a Gorilla label on the outside for the address.

Shipping note straight from USPS: a large envelope can be up to 12 by 15 inches and no thicker than 0.75 inch. A round poster tube is thicker, so USPS treats it as a parcel instead of a large envelope. The exact price depends on weight and zone. Use the USPS postage calculator before you print a label. If I remember correctly, the price difference is usually around $5–8, but don't quote me on that—it changed last time I checked.

Step 5: Do a Lost-Bottle Check Before You Leave

The best Gorilla label in the world won't help if the bottle is left behind. We didn't have a formal check at office events until after the third time a labeled bottle ended up in lost and found. Now I add a 5-minute count at the end of every event. At Disneyland, that means picking a spot at lunch, putting all bottles in that spot, and counting before you move on. One phone reminder set for 30 minutes before the last show can save you a lot of cleanup.

Common Mistakes That Break This Checklist

  • Using regular tape on a leak. Black Gorilla Tape is not Gorilla Waterproof Patch & Seal Tape. For a cracked bottle, replace it.
  • Calling anything waterproof without proof. Per FTC guidance, even an 'eco-friendly' claim needs to be substantiated. The same applies to labels and tapes.
  • Forgetting about moisture on the outside. A plastic bottle sweats; if you put a paper label on it, the label will peel by noon.
  • Skipping the cleaning step. A fresh waterproof label on a smelly bottle does not fix the bottle. Clean it first.

So, can you bring a water bottle into Disneyland? Yes—outside non-glass beverages are allowed, and refillable bottles are fine. The five-minute prep makes the trip easier: clean the bottle, use a waterproof Gorilla label, keep the right tape for emergencies, protect a Star Wars poster in a tube, and check your bottles before you leave. That's the same checklist I'd give an office manager or a parent.
