Glitter as an Initiative

#sparkleinitiative - a compliment, a smile, a pat on the back have the power to transform and move mountains.

Every day there's a chance to sparkle. We know how that sounds! We, along with so many of you, get bogged down when watching the news or reading negative things right in your Facebook timeline. And sometimes those things are heavy and genuinely debilitating. We aren't suggesting a Pollyanna attitude. But close.  How do we handle it all without getting overwhelmed? Especially during the holidays?

Enter attitude. It's that thing only you can control on a daily basis, and it has the power to help or harm. So when we say that a little bit of sparkle can solve most problems, what we mean is that focusing on how to make a situation better, by doing only what we can control, can turn negatives into positives.

This holiday season is a great time to test out sparkle at holiday gatherings, and getting into the sparkly mood. Remember, the only thing you can control is yourself. Let go of other people's opinions and allow only the things that exude positivity into your realm of influence.

Go forth and sparkle!

The $400 That Saved a $15,000 Event: Why Hallmark's Guarantee Is Your Real Budget

Posted on Thursday 23rd of July 2026

Don't order 'standard' when you mean 'emergency.' The brand premium is what you pay for certainty.

In March 2024, I got the call at 3 PM. A client needed 500 custom greeting cards for a corporate launch event. The event was in 36 hours. Normal turnaround for custom print at most vendors? Five to seven business days. We paid $400 extra for Hallmark's rush service—on top of the $600 base cost for that quantity. The alternative was missing a $15,000 event placement contract. The $400 wasn't a markup. It was insurance.

In my role coordinating emergency print for business clients, I've handled over 200 rush orders in the past four years. The most expensive mistake is not the rush fee. It's the lost client who doesn't get their materials on time.

What "best business credit card with cash back" has to do with print

I know the SEO keyword list looks weird. "Bubble wrap ziploc bags" and "best business credit card with cash back" don't seem related. But here's the thing: when you are frantically searching for a solution at 11 PM before a trade show, you search for anything you think might help. You want tape for packaging. You wonder if your credit card can cover the rush fee. The question beneath all those searches is the same: "Can I get this done in time without destroying my budget?"

The answer, in my experience, is usually yes—if you stop shopping for the cheapest quote and start shopping for the one you can trust.

What most people don't realize about turnaround times

Here's something vendors won't tell you: 'standard turnaround' often includes buffer time that vendors use to manage their production queue. It's not necessarily how long YOUR order takes. A big brand like Hallmark doesn't pad those dates as much as a discount shop does—because they have the infrastructure to hit them. What most people don't realize is that a 7-day turnaround from a cheap vendor might actually take 9 or 10 days when you factor in their queue. A 5-day guaranteed turnaround from a reputable brand? They eat the cost if they miss it.

I learned this the hard way. Everyone told me to always check the fine print on delivery guarantees. I only believed it after ignoring a vendor's 'estimated 5-7 days' and watching my client's project miss its deadline. That was a $1,200 mistake on a $400 order of flyers. I had to reprint everything at rush rates from another shop. The cheap quote ended up costing 30% more than the 'expensive' one.

The real cost of a missed deadline

Our company lost a $22,000 contract in 2022 because we tried to save $180 on standard printing for a conference. We used a discount online printer. The order arrived two days late. The client couldn't use the materials. They went with a competitor for the next event. That's when we implemented our 'brand guarantee' policy: for any client-facing deadline, we use a vendor with a proven track record, even if it costs more. We pay for the guarantee.

This was true 10 years ago when local print was the only reliable option. Today, a well-organized vendor with a strong brand—someone like Hallmark—can be just as reliable. The 'local is always faster' thinking is outdated. Modern logistics and production systems changed that.

When Hallmark makes sense (and when it doesn't)

I'm not going to tell you Hallmark is the right choice for every job. To be fair, their pricing is competitive for what they offer, but it's not the cheapest. You need Hallmark—or a vendor like them—when:

  • You have a hard deadline. A trade show. A wedding. A fundraising gala. If the date doesn't move, neither should your vendor choice.
  • You need design support. Their library of templates and design assets is huge. If you don't have an in-house designer, that's worth paying for.
  • You are ordering in volume. Their bulk capabilities are real. The per-unit cost drops significantly at scale.

You don't need Hallmark when: you're ordering a single custom card for a family member (use a local shop), or you have a three-week lead time and a very tight budget (a discount online printer will work).

Where do you put 'Attn' on an envelope?

Let's close with a practical one. I get asked this all the time. You write 'Attn:' (short for 'Attention') on the second line of the address, directly above the company name. Like this:

Company Name
Attn: Accounts Payable
123 Main Street

Simple stuff, but when you are panicked, you don't want to look it up. I've printed thousands of envelopes. Get that right, and the internal routing at the client site goes smoothly.

The bottom line

Don't hold me to this exact number, but roughly speaking, rush fees for print are 25-50% over standard. For next-day delivery, expect 50-100% more. I'm not 100% sure of the exact percentage at Hallmark this quarter, but the premium is worth it when your deadline is tight. You are not buying speed. You are buying the guarantee that your order will not be the reason a client is disappointed.
